Snowdance and Auction
The Snowdance is an elegant evening of entertainment and fine dining held at Earl’s Lodge at Snowbasin, and has come to signify the kick-off to the ski season. Silent and live auctions, music from local favorites Shades of Gray, the always delicious fare from Snowbasin’s renowned kitchen, and award winning programs and speakers combine for what is always a memorable evening. Proceeds from the event support the goals of The Snowbasin Ski Education Foundation and The Ogden Valley Business Association. The mission of The Ogden Valley Business Association is to enhance the quality of life for citizens of Ogden Valley (including Ogden Canyon) through the promotion and development of community and economic resources including arts and culture, education, health and human services, tourism, and community services. The Snowbasin Alpine Team is the racing organization of the Snowbasin Ski Education Foundation (SSEF); a non-profit organization dedicated to the development of young ski racers. The Alpine Team provides a fun, yet challenging way for young men and women to improve their skiing and to develop skills and discipline that will provide lifelong enjoyment of an active outdoor life.

The OVBA is pleased to announce that Phil Mahre, who many consider to be the greatest U.S. ski racer of all time, will be the guest speaker at the Snowdance Gala, the annual auction, dinner, and fund raiser for the Ogden Valley Business Association and the Snowbasin Alpine race teams. Mahre won three consecutive Overall World Cup Championships, six total World Cup Championships, gold and silver Olympic medals, and gold and silver FIS World Championship medals. He also had the most total wins in World Cup competition by a U.S. skier until Bode Miller passed him during the 2007/2008 season.
At the age of fifty-one, Mahre is attempting a comeback on the international ski racing circuit. His early results have been impressive, and are chronicled in a feature article in the October 2008 issue of Ski Magazine.
